Two young talents born in the south of Italy, Samuele Defendi and Giovanni Basile, aka Smoud Beats, have been bringing their sound rooted in minimal, acid and garage to key clubs across their home nation while also featuring as regulars for the iconic Buongiorno Classic. Alongside their own imprint Smoud Traxx and their 'Smoudy Tunes' series, the two have also released music on the likes of DimSumRecords and 4Plae Records, and they build on things with a label debut on LOCUS for their first release of 2024 with five new cuts across their 'Out Of Body' EP. Squelchy and cosmic, with warping synths taking hold early, lead cut 'Out Of Body' kicks things off in style while 'Speedy G' brings an abundance of speed garage influences reinforced by vibrant dub sirens. Next, 'Frequency Test (Cleveland Mix) effortlessly merges M1 organs with skippy percussion, contrasted against the tunnelling grooves, crisp kicks and wobbly sub-bass of 'Feel The M'. Closing the show is 'Acid Romario', as the duo dive into a hazy, trippy journey to see out proceedings.
